What is yoga?

Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility, correct breathing and relaxation to boost physical and mental wellbeing.  The main components of yoga are postures, which are a series of movements designed to release tension from the body also increasing strength and flexibility, breathing exercises and relaxation to bring a sense of calmness to the body and mind. 

 What are the health benefits?

Many scientific trials have been published on yoga, most suggest yoga is a safe and effective way to increase physical activity, especially body strength, flexibility and balance. There is some evidence that regular yoga practice can help reduce high blood pressure, reduce the symptoms of stress and anxiety and ease aches and pains, especially in the lower back. 

 If you have any specific health issues, it is always advisable to check with your G.P. before starting any new physical activity. 

 A little about me

I first became interested in yoga as a way to bring peace and calmness into my busy life. Through posture work, breathing exercises and relaxation over time I found real balance and inner peace within the body and mind. I have been practising yoga for over 20 years and have seen huge benefits in muscle strength, flexibility and most importantly a calmer, quieter mind.  After completing a 12 month British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course, I trained and qualified as a Hatha Yoga Teacher in 2016.  In 2017 I decided to follow my dream and left my corporate job in Social Housing to concentrate on teaching yoga and continue my journey to learn and share with others.  In addition to the comprehensive yoga teacher training I have completed many additional courses including 2 years with a Senior Yoga Teacher, Yoga for Mental Health, Meditation and Mindfulness & Pregnancy Yoga.  

I specialise in Hatha and Pregnancy Yoga, I incorporate into each class a balance of yoga postures, stretching, breathing techniques and a deep relaxation. (the hatha class is suitable for everybody and all abilities). 

Pregnancy Yoga - Starting Wednesday 19th September 2018 6.30PM - 7.45PM (BOOKING ESSENTIAL AS MAXIMUM OF 10 STUDENTS PER CLASS)

Midwifes recommend pregnancy yoga as a way of preparing the body and mind for pregnancy, birth and beyond. Research suggests that prenatal yoga can have many benefits for pregnant women and their babies. Studies have suggested that practicing yoga while pregnancy can also improve sleep, reduce stress and anxiety, increase the strengthflexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth.
